Tempus: no sign of a peak in the market just yet

As the two biggest UK property companies, British Land and the larger Land Securities have a degree of rivalry between them. As one analyst pointed out, the former outstripped its rival in terms of the growth in the value of its portfolio over the summer, with a rise of 4.7 per cent.

Both are well positioned in the booming property market, though, and by all measures are performing strongly. British Land, which reported halfway figures to the end of September yesterday, said that net assets had risen by 7.5 per cent to 891p per share, but the shares, up 18½p to 838½p, are still trading at a discount to this, having slipped back with the rest of the sector over the past couple of weeks.
